What is your athletic background?

I danced, mostly ballet and jazz, from elementary school until college. I was a lifeguard in high school and college. As an adult, I’ve done mud runs, a half marathon, and a full marathon. I’ve been doing CrossFit, sometimes competitively, since 2010.

How did you fall in love with CrossFit?

I was bored with my fitness routine. I had trained and fulfilled my goal of completing a marathon in 2009 and wondered, “What now?” I’m very goal oriented and I prefer to have something to work towards rather than simply working out. With CrossFit, there’s always a challenge and boredom is never a factor.

What is your favorite type of WOD?

I love Karen! Typically, I like chippers. I don’t mind longer workouts or even high volume reps, but I like to do the movement and then get on the next exercise.

What is your favorite movement?

Not surprisingly, wall balls. I like thrusters too (same movement, just a barbell instead of a ball). I also have fun with pistols. If I can use my legs, I’m happy.

Least favorite movement?

Gymnastic movements and I have battle scars from box jumps.

What is the one food you could not live without?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

What is your favorite kind of music to workout to?

Classic rock, hip hop, and 80’s hair bands.

What would be one word to describe you?

Resourceful.

What is something people may be surprised to know about you?

I’m Wonder Woman.

How would you describe your coaching style?

I’m encouraging because I know everyone can do their version of a workout and I want them to be proud of their efforts. I recognize that each athlete has his/her own goal and I want to do all I can to help him/her achieve that goal.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?

I love to write so I do some freelance work, as well as edit papers for my college friends. I’m the mother of two boys and we stay busy with school projects, sporting events, and occasional visits to the ER. I also have a tendency to take in stray animals and feel as if I’m running a rescue facility at times. Need a pet? Call me. I probably have one for you.
