Semi-Private Training for High School Athletes
What is semi-private training?
Semiprivate training is similar to small group training. The difference is that every athlete receives an individualized program that is designed specifically for their body type, goals, sport and current physical status. This makes it similar to personal training, but at less than half the cost.
Athletes also receive all the benefits of group training. It’s a fun, motivating, and competitive training environment that fosters an athlete’s growth and development. Small group training also encourages a level of autonomy and accountability that enhances an athlete’s overall understanding of the training process a great skill for lifelong health.
Who runs the program?
Supervision of the program is by strength and conditioning coach and Metro personal trainer, Mike Irr. Mike worked 5 seasons in the NBA as a strength and conditioning coach, two with the Chicago Bulls and three with the Charlotte Hornets. He has also worked with many high school and division I NCAA athletes.

What are my package options for semiprivate training?
There are two options for semiprivate training: unlimited and 2x per week.
- Unlimited: Unlimited training allows your athlete to attend every session from MondayThursday. It’s perfect for any offseason athlete who is looking for athletic development and injury prevention for the upcoming sport season.
- 2x per week: The athlete can attend two sessions per week between Monday and Thursday. It’s recommended (but not required) that they attend either Monday or Tuesday, and Wednesday or Thursday, to split up their training. This package is also great for offseason athletes, especially those with other team obligations during the week. It is also possible for inseason athletes depending on their practice schedule.
After enrolling my athlete, what happens next?
Each athlete will receive a 60-minute oneonone assessment with Mike. The assessment will include:
- A review of the athlete’s medical history, including previous injuries or surgeries
- Anthropometric measurements, including height, weight, and body composition
- Postural assessment
- Movement screen (via the Functional Movement Screen)
- Performance testing, including testing for general athleticism and sport specific performance.
- Goal setting
From the assessment, Mike will design an individualized training program for the athlete.
Next, two foundation sessions will be set up with Mike, and must be completed before the athlete can enter group training. The goals for the foundation sessions are:
- To establish understanding of the overall training program
- Introduce all exercises, with particular focus on proper technique and safety
- Teach the athlete verbal cues related to breathing, posture, and positioning
- Orient the athlete to the training template, including how to read it and how to record progress
Now, your athlete is ready to start their program in the semiprivate training group.
